Getting started
Your first class is not an exam. You don’t need to be fit or experienced, because you’ll learn everything on the mat.

Step 1
Tell us whether the class is for you or your child, and whether you’ve done any sport before. We’ll arrange your first class and answer all your questions.

Step 3
You’ll start with the basics, at a steady pace, whatever your previous experience.
„Always assume your opponent is going to be bigger, stronger and faster than you; so that you learn to rely on technique, timing and leverage rather than brute strength.”
Hélio Gracie, one of the founders of BJJ

The club
BJJ Międzyrzecz is a Brazilian jiu-jitsu club from Poland’s Lubusz region, open to beginners and experienced grapplers alike.
What is BJJ? It’s a martial art where most of the action happens on the ground. You learn to control your opponent, escape from tough positions and finish with a joint lock or a choke. Always with control and respect for your partner. BJJ is trained in a kimono (Gi) or without one (No-Gi). Regular training builds fitness and confidence, and helps you switch off from everyday life.

Not sure where to begin? Give us a call before your first class and we’ll tell you how to prepare and what to expect.

Who is it for?
Age and experience don’t matter. What counts is wanting to learn.
Everyone starts somewhere. Your first classes cover the basics at your own pace, and fitness comes with time.
Children can train at the club from age 8. Is your child younger? Ask whether they can come with a parent and how they can take part.
Adults of all ages are welcome, including those over 50. BJJ is built on technique, not strength. Ask us for details before your first visit.

FAQ
Answers to the questions we hear most often.

Training is based on control, not strikes. You practise techniques with a partner who can tap out at any moment. Tapping is the agreed signal to stop immediately.
Gi means training in a kimono, where gripping the fabric is part of the technique. No-Gi is training without a kimono, in a sports top (rashguard) and shorts. Ask what to wear for your first class when you book.
Yes, we organise trips to competitions, seminars and club meet-ups.
